The Role TIME is seeking a Senior Political Correspondent to cover American politics at one of the most fascinating and consequential moments in the nation’s history. This position offers a rare opportunity for an experienced and highly ambitious journalist to produce the best work of their career. The right candidate will have the time, talent, and editorial support to deliver scoops, definitive profiles of major political figures, deeply reported enterprise features, and agenda-setting news analysis for a trusted news organization with global reach and influence. The role will include a license to roam widely across national politics, from both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to communities across the U.S. We’re looking for a correspondent with the range to penetrate Washington’s inner sanctums and to write with verve and authority about the people, cultural forces, and grassroots movements shaping this era of political upheaval and realignment. An ideal candidate will have clips that indicate an ability to craft stylish magazine-style narratives, a deep roster of sources in both parties, the confidence to challenge conventional wisdom, the humility to consider alternative viewpoints, competitive drive, and an appreciation for the complexity of policymaking. You should be hungry to take on a high-stakes beat with rigor, creativity, and a commitment to the highest journalistic standards. Responsibilities Cover the people, policies, institutions, and movements defining American politics Pitch, report, and write ambitious pieces rooted in scoops of fact, access, and idea Work across platforms and at a range of speeds to tell the essential political stories in the most compelling formats, including under intense time pressure Participate in newsroom-wide special projects and collaborate with colleagues across departments Represent TIME in public-facing capacities at company and industry events as well as on television, radio, and podcasts Promote and abide by our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion Qualifications A track record of exceptional beat coverage, including a demonstrated ability to break news and develop high-level sources A track record of delivering outstanding magazine-style features Demonstrated expertise in U.S. politics. The role will be shaped by the right candidate’s interests, sources, and experience, but this is a beat that spans federal, state, and grassroots politics An eagerness to collaborate with colleagues to do world-class work that makes a difference A commitment to fact-based, nonpartisan journalism and the highest ethical standards This position is represented by the NewsGuild of New York. Location Ideally, this role would be based either in TIME’s Washington bureau or New York City headquarters. For candidates in those locations, this would be a hybrid role—typically 3 days per week in the office.
