Duties include troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and maintaining a variety of heavy mobile equipment such as construction, industrial, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment. Major systems or components of equipment will be removed and repaired, including power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps, and alternators. Idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments will be made. Initial and in-process inspections, mechanical diagnostics, troubleshooting, mechanical maintenance on defective parts, and minor body work will be performed. Technical assistance to unit personnel will be provided, and motor vehicles will be operated to perform the duties of this position.
Conditions of employment may include a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation. Active membership as a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) is required. A Personnel Security Investigation is required. Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements apply, and a Class A CDL is required within 180 days of employment. A medical examination is required prior to employment.

Minimum qualifications include the ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to troubleshoot, maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment, repair, replace, install, or make adjustments to mobile equipment components and parts, and conduct various operational tests to perform final inspection.
Physical effort required includes working in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods, frequently climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components, frequently bending, reaching, stretching, and crouching, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds, and pushing, pulling, and turning heavy parts and equipment. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds. Work is performed inside and outside where you will be exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, and vehicle fumes. You will be exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in mud and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks, and strains.
