Job Description
Great Big Theatre Company is looking for Theatre Coaches for its summer Theatre Arts Day Camps programs for 2024. There are approximately 40 positions available for a two-month term during July and August, at 14 locations in the GTA and southwest Ontario.
This is a salaried position ideal for those who enjoy working with children and young people and are qualified to do so, and who also have some theatrical experience. Completion of, or enrolment in, a university-level drama program is an asset, but not a requirement.
A valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a requirement. If interested in applying, please contact your local Regional Police Services well in advance to arrange for this, since there is often a delay in obtaining this document.
CPR / First-aid accreditation is also an asset, as is having your own transportation.
The counsellors’ / theatre coaches’ role is to supervise all activities, ensure the care and safety of children attending, and so far as possible ensure that the camp is a positive experience for all. Age of the attendees is 6 to 14. Staff will be in charge of drama-oriented instruction and games and will help children prepare for an end-of-week performance. Hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, with extended hours a possibility. Pay is $ 18.20 / hr, or more depending on qualifications and experience.
Some supervisory positions are also available. These will be at a higher rate of pay; they will require extensive travel between locations. Those hired for supervisory positions will need to have their own vehicles.
Camps locations include: Burlington, Hamilton / Dundas, Etobicoke, Guelph, London, Mississauga, North York, Oakville, Oshawa, Richmond Hill, Toronto / Beach, Waterloo and Whitby.
