OQS Media is establishing a flagship home in New York City for The Spectator , UnHerd , Apollo , and the causes we support — a landmark space that will bring together editorial excellence, public debate, and cutting-edge broadcast production under one roof.

We are seeking a dynamic Studio and Venue Manager to oversee all aspects of this new headquarters — including a professional broadcast studio, event spaces, library, and wider office infrastructure. This is a unique role for a commercially minded all-rounder with the technical, operational, and strategic skills to turn a distinctive building into a living, working hub for ideas.

Key Responsibilities

Studio & Production Oversight

  • Manage all studio operations, including scheduling, production logistics, and technical setup
  • Oversee procurement, installation, and upkeep of filming, lighting and sound equipment
  • Support internal editorial and commercial teams in producing high-quality video and audio content
  • Develop and deliver a commercial strategy for the studio as a revenue-generating facility

Facilities & Office Operations

  • Manage the day-to-day running of the building: access, maintenance, cleaning, security, and utilities
  • Ensure all office areas, including hot-desking zones and editorial spaces, function smoothly and professionally
  • Coordinate with external contractors, IT providers, and suppliers

Events & Hospitality

  • Lead on the setup and delivery of internal and public-facing events in the building’s library and social spaces
  • Manage all logistical aspects of events — including AV, seating, catering, and staffing
  • Build and execute a commercial plan for hosting external events and private hire

Team Building & Leadership

  • Recruit and manage a small operational and events team to support the running of the space
  • Build efficient systems for bookings, scheduling, space management and client liaison
  • Act as the key point of contact for all building users — across editorial, commercial, foundation and partner teams

Strategic & Commercial Focus

  • Create and manage budgets for facilities, studio and events operations
  • Build commercial models and pricing for studio hire, event bookings, and other revenue-generating activities
  • Work with the COO and commercial leadership to ensure long-term ROI and mission alignment

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing a creative, multimedia or studio-based environment
  • Operationally astute with a proactive, hands-on approach
  • Technically confident with a working knowledge of cameras, lighting, sound, editing software and studio systems
  • Commercially minded: able to create viable pricing models, secure clients, and deliver strong ROI
  • Strong communicator, capable of liaising with journalists, guests, vendors, clients and contractors
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a sense of ownership and pride in creating something world-class
  • Calm under pressure, with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, ideas-driven environment with high standards and ambitious goals
