Job Description

The County of Riverside's District Attorney's Office seeks Senior District Attorney Investigator A and B levels to fill multiple vacancies throughout Riverside County. Incumbents of this journey level class are peace officers who perform the full range of investigative work within the Bureau of Investigation. There are a variety of office locations including: Riverside, Murrieta, Banning, Indio, Blythe, and other Task Force locations. Available work schedules include: 9/80, 4/10, and 5/40 schedules. The assignments vary with Specialty Task Forces, Fraud, and Bureau Assignments. Higher salary ranges may be available based on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificates. In addition, promotional opportunities exist to the Senior District Attorney Investigator II and III levels. All applicants must submit a resume to be considered for the position.

EDUCATION INCENTIVE PAY

  • Bachelor Degree - 2.5% of base pay paid as premium
  • Masters Degree - 5.0% of base pay paid as premium

Under direction, to conduct criminal investigations involving the gathering of evidence for the apprehension and prosecution of persons suspected of violating the law; and to do other work as required.

Incumbents of this journey level class are peace officers performing the full range of investigative work within the Office of the District Attorney. This class is distinguished from Supervising District Attorney Investigator, who supervises a specialized unit or units. The Senior District Attorney Investigator performs more complex investigations than the lower-level District Attorney Investigator, who performs routine and less complex work under general supervision.

  • Investigate actual and suspected law violations, including complex cases; gather, analyze, and report evidence; conduct field investigations and search crime scenes; interview and interrogate persons to obtain information; recommend criminal complaints; prepare reports; testify in court; investigate backgrounds; and assist in case preparations.
  • Conduct investigations for the Grand Jury and background checks of applicants; perform live and photo ID line-ups.
  • Execute search warrants and court orders to collect evidence and biological samples.
  • Participate in search warrant operations, surveillance, undercover investigations; travel as needed; transport prisoners, witnesses, and victims.
  • Operate communication and investigative equipment; load, transport, and store evidence.
  • Explain policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; maintain logs, reports, and databases.
  • Monitor security alarms; perform various staff assignments including law enforcement liaison, range master, training officer, and others.
  • Investigate specialized cases such as police-involved incidents, fraud, hazardous materials, child abduction, and organized crime.

Education: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units at an accredited college, including 12 semester or 18 quarter units in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related fields.

Experience:

  • OPTION I: Three years of criminal investigative experience, including field investigations, in a sworn position with a governmental law enforcement agency.
  • OPTION II: Two years as a Riverside County District Attorney Investigator.

Knowledge of: Crime investigation principles, criminal law, evidence rules, interviewing and interrogation techniques.

Ability to: Gather, analyze, and report evidence; draw logical conclusions; communicate effectively; establish effective relationships.

Other Requirements: Valid driver's license (California, Arizona, or Nevada); valid Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certificate (830.1 minimum), with Advanced preferred; pass extensive background check.
