About the Role

As the Safety and Compliance Officer, you will work closely with other members of the autonomous driving validation operations team to institute a culture of safety and compliance. You will support this through robust strategies, systems, and processes to ensure the highest levels of safety and compliance across operations. You will implement best-in-class safety practices, methodologies, automation, and simplification to provide the best experience to employees and communities where operations are conducted.

Key Expectations from the Role

  • Establish strategies and protocols to ensure compliance with DOT, non-DOT regulatory requirements, and internal safety and compliance standards.
  • Evaluate current processes and practices to identify risks and opportunities for transformation into best-in-class operations.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to establish and maintain QMS, ISO, and EHS quality assurance processes, including audits, inspections, and assessments.
  • Define measurable processes and establish qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
  • Serve as a safety advocate within the organization, fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability through training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct analysis of safety data and performance metrics to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement, and develop strategies to enhance safety outcomes and reduce incidents.
  • Monitor emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory changes in the market, and apply them to operations safety practices. Provide strategic guidance to senior management to ensure compliance and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and internal/external stakeholders to represent the company’s interests and influence safety-related policies and standards.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive safety governance framework for operations, encompassing policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Engage and lead safety governance forums.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in transportation safety management or a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
  • Deep understanding of safety regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to autonomous vehicle transportation operations.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent safety certification. Exposure to Sword of Honor is highly preferred.
  • Experience as an internal auditor or certification in ISO 9001 QMS and ISO 14001 EHS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and present at all organizational levels.
  • Outstanding leadership and organizational skills with a track record of managing complex functional interactions.
  • Ability to scale up processes and standardize across multiple sites.
  • Right to work in the United States of America.

Reporting Structure

This role will report to the national core operational leader while closely working with several functional heads of the project.
