Job Description

An opportunity is available for an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) to support K-12 students in Mesa, AZ. This position focuses on helping visually impaired students develop the skills necessary to navigate their environment independently and safely. The role is offered as a contract for the current school year (CSY).

Key responsibilities include:

• Assessing students orientation and mobility needs and developing individualized plans
• Providing direct instruction in traveling techniques, use of assistive tools, and safety skills
• Collaborating with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations
• Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies accordingly
• Conducting assessments to evaluate functional vision and spatial orientation

Qualifications and desired experience:

• Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS preferred)
• Experience working with K-12 students, especially those with visual impairments
• Knowledge of mobility aids such as white canes and electronic travel devices
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to design and implement effective instructional programs
