The candidate will be responsible for the technical oversight and leadership of a team of engineers. In this role they will be responsible for helping guide the development of innovative new designs, providing technical leadership and mentorship of the team, coordinating with Navy counterparts and NNS management, managing task budgets and staffing levels, and the oversight of their team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with a comprehensive knowledge of the engineering and design process related to mechanical ship systems from the concept stage, through manufacture and first article testing. They will be a team facilitator with strong communication skills, helping to inspire creative solutions to challenging design goals. They will foster a positive and collaborative work environment in their team. They will establish and reflect an expectation for first time quality in the products their team produces.
The position may require periodic travel to naval bases and facilities, ship visits, vendors, other NNS facilities or conferences.
